“Design go.Cup,” the 2008 regional conference of the Industrial Designers Society of America’s Southern District, will be hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design March 6-8. The conference takes place at the River Club, 3 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., in Savannah.

Attendees will explore the philosophy, ecology and emotion of design with lectures by successful designers, workshops, tours and portfolio exhibitions. The conference will feature three days of sessions by leading design practitioners, educators and design theorists for a diverse array of dynamic presentations, provocative discussions and interactive workshops, as well as a reception hosted by the SCAD industrial design department.

Keynote speakers include Jose Gamboa, industrial designer for KidsII; Warren Ginn, principal of Ginndesign LLC and senior research industrial designer at the Renaissance Computing Institute; Emiliano Godoy, industrial designer with Pratt Institute; Scott Henderson, principal of Scott Henderson Inc. and founding partner of Mint Inc.; Steve Portigal, founder of Portigal Consulting; Chris Rockwell, founder of Lexant; Wyatt Starosta, researcher for Lexant; and IDSA Executive Director Frank Tyneski.

The SCAD industrial design department prepares students to determine the form and function of products we use every day — designing them to suit user needs while also considering the demands and limitations of production. The graduate and undergraduate programs were ranked third and fourth in the nation, respectively, by DesignIntelligence's 2008 edition of "America's Best Architecture and Design Schools." Both programs were ranked No. 1 in the South and among the top 10 in the East. The undergraduate program also was ranked No. 2 in the Midwest.

IDSA is the voice of the industrial design profession, advancing the quality and positive impact of design. Industrial design professionals, educators and students make up the more than 3,300 members in 28 districts across the U.S. Read more about the conference.
